It’s that time of the year again when the humidity increases and the temperatures rise. Opening the windows to let cooler air into your home – just won’t cut it.
The humid Midwest heat will break you down at some point this summer. Eventually, you decide to close all of the windows, head to the thermostat and click over to cool. Then, you wait for the sweet hum of your air conditioning system to kick on… but you hear NOTHING. The air conditioner will not turn on.
Before you panic, try the following simple steps before calling for help:
STEP 1: Check your thermostat. Is it set below the current room temperature? If not, set it to a lower temperature and enjoy relief as the system starts up.
STEP 2: Check the electrical panel. Check for a tripped breaker or a blown fuse. If you find the breaker to be the culprit, flip the breaker back to on. If the fuse is blown, you will need to replace the old fuse.
STEP 3: Check your AC’s filters. It is common for your furnace and air conditioning unit to share the same duct work and therefore, the same filter. Make sure that all filters are clean. A dirty filter will restrict airflow and ultimately how your system will function. Or in your case, a dirty filter could be prohibiting it from running at all.
