We hear this question all the time and the answer – is for the safety of you and your family. A gas furnace can be heating just fine. Running just like it always has except it may not be operating safely. Unlike the older furnaces that had no safety’s, the newer ones do but it is still a gas appliance.
* It has a venting system and gas piping that allow the furnace to run even if there is a problem.
* The furnace can still produce high levels of carbon monoxide and continue to run.
If a furnace is inspected every year the chance of it becoming unsafe is extremely low. A carbon monoxide detector should also be installed on every level of your house. And don’t forget, all CO detectors need to be replaced every five years (the sensors go bad).
