Does your Furnace Smell When You First Turn it On?
October 05, 2012
This is the first week that the forecast is calling for the temperature to drop into the 30’s. So it is quite likely that a lot of you will be turning on your furnace for the first time.
Before you do, please take just a few minutes to make sure the filter is clean and nothing has been stored nearby over the summer that is flammable. When you turn the furnace on for the first time, it is normal to smell an unpleasant odor. This is only the dust that has accumulated on the heat components burning off. Just open a window or a door and the odor will quickly dissipate. The good news is that the smell should disappear after the first couple of uses, if not contact us to schedule a technician to do a thorough inspection to make sure everything is operating safely.
