Licensed HVAC Companies in Kansas City

You Get What You Pay For
It seems like everywhere you look, there are tell-tale signs of the growing numbers of “trunk slammers.”
You may not know the term, but you know who they are: HVAC contractors with minimum skill and experience, no office, and no HVAC license; also known as “moonlighters,” “Chuck-in-a-truck,” and “fly-by-nighters.”
They are always easy to spot because they have various tools hanging from their white, unmarked vehicles, no uniforms, and, most importantly, they are not members of licensed HVAC companies!
While they work under the radar and may offer what seem to be great bargains, their discounted prices often end up costing you much more. Unlicensed HVAC contractors can cut their prices because they don’t pay licensing fees, they pull permits, they don’t carry liability or workers comp insurance, and they don’t collect sales tax or pay income tax.
Some other trunk slammer characteristics include:
- They have a very limited understanding of their trade
- They can and will sue you if they are injured on your property
- They wire around safety components because they don’t stock the necessary parts on their trucks
- They install new equipment but won’t provide warranty services
- They frequently change their cell phone numbers so they can’t be found
- They rarely answer their phones, especially after hours, if you have a problem with their work
All of this adds up to a great amount of unnecessary risk for consumers.
On a daily basis, we receive calls in our office from distraught people that have been taken advantage of by unqualified HVAC service providers. They always say the same thing: “We should have called you in the first place.”
When you are working with a licensed HVAC company, you know that if there is a problem, it will be taken care of. As one of our valued customers, you know we will always be available to greet you at our front door and to answer your phone calls.
While it costs a significant amount of money to run a legitimate, licensed HVAC company, I am sure glad that we do.
Maybe Benjamin Franklin was on to something when he said, “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten!”
