When to Turn the Air Conditioner on in March

March may come in like a lion, and out like a lamb, but we definitely haven’t seen the “lamb” part yet. However, with some patience, it will come. The problem is that sometimes in March we have a “sneak peek” into spring with some warmth, and then it goes right back to cold again. When that happens, what should you do in regard to your heating and cooling?

  • Wait a few minutes before switching between heating and cooling. Immediately turning one unit off and then other one on could fry your circuit board.
  • Wait to turn the air conditioner on until there are at least TWO DAYS of warm air (over 65 degrees). This is because the oil in the compressor needs time to loosen up prior to operating. Failing to do this could result in a broken air conditioner compressor.

Now, we just have to sit back, and wait (bundled up of course) for the lion of March to pass. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Santa Fe Air!
